“Even in ruin, greatness does not fade. It stays behind in stone, silence, and memory.”
I wanted this frame to speak about the tragedy of Vijayanagara. In the foreground, I composed the broken elephant sculpture, its damaged trunk becoming a quiet reminder of the ravages of war and the violence that once swept through this land. In the background, I kept the Stone Chariot and the Kalyana Mantapa, still standing with all their grandeur, so that the image could hold both loss and beauty in the same breath.
For me, that contrast is what gives Hampi its emotional power. Even in ruins, it remains deeply beautiful. The broken sculpture brings pain and memory, while the monuments behind it continue to reflect the scale, elegance, and artistic brilliance of an empire that once flourished here. I also liked that this composition shows the Stone Chariot complex from a different perspective, one that feels more poignant and reflective.
