Framed by layers of green, Multnomah Falls plunges down a mossy basalt cliff in the Columbia River Gorge dropping about 620 feet in two tiers. The slender upper fall drops from the forest canopy, passes the graceful arch of Benson Bridge and spills into a second, frothier cascade below. Visitors on the bridge look tiny against the cliffs, a reminder of how tall the falls really are. Broad, dewy leaves in the foreground frame the scene, as if you’re peeking at it from inside the forest.

Multnomah Falls is an absolute icon. After years of staring at it in pictures, standing before it in real life left me completely awestruck. There’s really only one famous angle to view it from, which is why every photo looks similar—but nothing compares to the real thing. It is incredibly majestic, and seeing it framed by autumn’s yellows and oranges is a dream of mine. Hoping to experience it during peak fall one day!
