“Time may weather the stone, but it cannot erase the emotions carved within.”
A weathered maiden at the Sun Temple of Konark caught my attention, not because she was the grandest sculpture in sight, but because of the expression that still survives on her face. Centuries of wind, rain and time have softened her features and worn away the finer details, yet something remarkably human remains in her gaze. I chose to move closer and let her dominate the frame, allowing the iconic Konark wheel to remain in the background, a quiet reminder of the magnificent monument to which she belongs.
Sometimes the most compelling stories are hidden in the smallest details of a grand monument. For me, this is the essence of photography as the art of seeing and visualizing. Seeing what others might walk past, recognizing a story within a larger canvas, and visualizing how a change in perspective can give that story a voice of its own. Amid the grandeur of Konark, it was this silent, weathered face that made me pause.
