“Stone may rest upon the earth, but faith always rises toward the sky.”
At Malyavantha Raghunatha Temple, I was drawn to this beautiful relationship between the linga carved directly on the rock in the foreground and the Shiva temple gopura rising in the background. Above it, the monsoon clouds gathered like a great crown, giving the entire scene a sense of drama, reverence, and timelessness. The composition felt deeply rooted in Hampi, where rock, temple, sky, and devotion seem to belong to one another.
I wanted the foreground linga to anchor the frame, as if devotion itself begins from the earth, while the gopura in the distance carries that same spiritual energy upward. The monsoon clouds added mood and grandeur, making the temple appear even more powerful and sacred. For me, this photograph became not just about architecture, but about the way faith is expressed in the landscape itself, carved into stone, rising through temples, and watched over by the sky.
