“Some places are remembered not only by what we see, but by what quietly lingers in the air.”

Inside the Vijaya Vittala Temple complex, an old frangipani tree (also known as Champa or Deva Kanigale) comes alive during August and September, filling the ancient stones with delicate flowers and a fragrance that feels almost unexpected in a place shaped by time and ruin. Standing there, I was struck by how gently nature continues its own rhythm, even among monuments that have witnessed centuries pass.

I used a fallen flower in the foreground, the tree along the left, and a small temple in the background to bring all these elements together. For me, the fallen flower became more than a foreground detail. It felt like a small reminder of beauty, fragility and continuity. The flower had completed its brief life, yet its fragrance remained. Behind it, the temple still stood. In that moment, the frame felt less about architecture and more about time itself, about what fades, what survives, and what continues to leave its presence long after it has fallen.
